Welcome 2020!

The New Year starts tomorrow! Like I did last year, this year I am also doing a recap of 2019. So many things have happened this year, mazing and otherwise, this was a life changing year–I know I say that about every year!

If you want to read last year’s post you can do so by clicking here, and if you want to read the Taking Inventory Exercise from SavvyMiss, go check their post out!

TAKING INVENTORY EXERCISE

What major life changes occurred this year? (Did you move, make a career change, change your lifestyle, get married, start a family, fall in love, end a bad relationship, start a business, close a business, etc.?)

Two major life changes were getting married and graduating college. They happened two weeks from each other (November 22, and December 15). I am still adjusting to living in a new house and not having a set schedule for my daily life. I was so used to waking up at a specific time, going to class, eating at exactly the same time every day and even knowing how much time I had to rest and/or do homework; I haven’t yet developed a routine and that leaves me wasting time or even focusing on something for so long that I forget that there are other things that also need to get done….like showering.

Did you travel? Where did you go? What did you see?

This year I went to Guatemala during summer (sadly the last time for a while). During that time, my family and I traveled to Cancun, Mexico for a family vacation. And the past couple of months I did a lot of moving between Bellevue and Davenport.

Who came into your life this year? Who left? (Friends, partners, lovers, clients, pets …)

In 2019 I acquired a couple of new pets, the two most relevant (being the two that I can interact the most with) were JP, formally known as “no name”, is a leopard gecko that Brandon and I rescued on January 19, 2019, and our beautiful cat Tiny, who we got not long ago from Brandon’s grandma. Other pets we got include snails and fish.

This past year I got to meet and get closer with Brandon’s family. Some family members I had already met, but this year I got to spend a lot more time with them and actually get to know them.

I met “momma” that’s what we call my best friend’s mom. She loves me like I was her daughter, and when being away from home and from my own mother was hard, she was there for me.

What was your absolute high of 2019?

Getting married definitely, nothing tops that! Graduating two weeks later was pretty awesome too!

What was your low?

Earlier this year around February, my depression reached its worst point in a long time. I was dealing with someone at school that was stalking me (I had to file a restraining order) which lead to my PTSD. I began seeing a psychiatrist and was put on medication. While going to therapy I started working on other things from my past that were also affecting me, it was a really hard process but definitely worth it.

What life lessons, trades and skills did you learn this year?

Putting myself first. Growing up I was always the people pleaser and I would as far as doing something that made utterly unhappy for the sake of making someone else happy. I am not saying it is bad to do things for others, but you should never let people take advantage of you and absolutely never do something that goes against you values/personal beliefs for someone else!

Some people aren’t worth keeping in your life. This year I learned to let people go because they kept putting me down and because they criticized me more than they supported me.

What growth can you notice in yourself compared to this time last year?

I love myself a lot more now that I ever have. I know there are things I still have to work on but I also know that I am enough the way I am and I am also quite amazing.

What do your income, savings and overall finances look like compared to last year? What would you like them to look like a year from now?

My financial situation has not changed much since last year. This year I will hopefully be able to change my immigration status so that I can have a job.

What health or physical improvements did you make to your body or lifestyle?

During 2019, I made several health changes. I am trying to reduce my gluten intake (I am gluten intolerant), I can officially say that I no longer crave cheese, I also began moving a lot more, and lately I started to work-out every day. I am also learning a lot about alternative medicine, especially different ways to relief migraine pains.

Did you make any big purchases? (Car, home, furniture, etc.)

Not really.

What was the most romantic moment you experienced in 2019?

During our wedding there were several moments when Brandon hugged me and kissed my forehead. He did it through the whole wedding, and it reminded me that it was about us and how much we loved each other rather than about the guests or the food or the party.

What was the most fun you had?

When you drive from Davenport to Bellevue every weekend you learn to enjoy the ride. One fun memory is watching Brandon dancing and singing along to Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts.”

What are you most proud of from 2019?

If you had to describe 2019 in only one word what would it be?

Insane! In such a wonderful way, the craziest year I’ve had.

Finally, choose a word for 2020 to keep at the forefront of your mind. (Examples: love, abundance, health, wealth, joy, ease, focus, flow, generosity.)

Love.

WHAT NOW?

I invite you to answer these questions as well, to reflect on your year and think about what you want for 2020!

Don’t forget to share your comments down below. Let me know how your year was, what goals you have for next year, what’s on your bucket list, or simply say hi to let me know you are reading the blog.
