Q&A About My Job

Hello wonderful human beings, how have you been? I have been busy, doing lots of art and cooking delicious meals (or at least that's what Brandon says). Anyhow, today I am writing to answer a very important question "why do I not have job?"

I do not have a job, in the strict sense of being employed by someone else and having a 9 to 5 traditional job–nothing wrong with that! but I do have a job, I treat all of my writing as my career and I consider them my job, because this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to be a writer and it is something I work on every day, whether it is to publish in this blog or writing a book (I am working on two right now) so, yes, I sit in front of my computer for hours and all I do is type. It is a job, and it is true that I don’t get a monthly pay check, but I am working, and I do it every day.

If you are a creator, I am telling you, it is going to be hard and it is going to take long before you start making money. But if you are passionate about it and you put in the work it can be done. Just because it is not a traditional 9 to 5, office job it doesn’t mean it is not my job. This is what I do, I am a writer. Just like others go to their office, I go to the kitchen table, and work.

I am constantly told that writing is not a career and that being an author is not an actual job and I am just there like “have you ever tried writing a book?” because chances are you haven’t, if you had you would know how hard it can be to write. Not only because you have to come up with ideas about what to write but also because you have to sit down and do it. You either handwrite it or you type it, but you have to, and then you have to share because if you don’t there is no point in doing it. Unless it is your journal or something really personal. But if you want to make it your job you have to share it.

Do I make any money?

No, I do not. The reason why I don't make any money out of my books (not yet published), this blog or any of my art is because I am currently in the process of changing my status from F1 visa (international student) to a permanent residency. While this takes place I am not allowed to work aka generate an income, without a work permit and hopefully I will have one soon!

Could I be a babysitter or something that pays cash?

I could do it out of the goodness of my heart, but not for money. Anything over $1 per year is considered an income when it comes as an exchange of goods or services, regardless of whether it is payed in cash, check, etc.

How does Brandon feel about me not having job?

He knows there is nothing I can do other than wait for a work permit, and he understands that writing and art are the things that I want to dedicate my life to and has no problem with me being self-employed/freelancer working from home.

Until next week

I hope this post helps clarify why I don't have a job and why I don't seem to be looking for one. If you have anymore questions or anything you would like to say, feel free to do so in the comments below.

Until next week, go out to the world and share the things you are passionated about! Don't forget that being kind is free but comes but comes with a warm feeling in your heart known as love. So go love everyone, starting with yourself.
