Midnight Thoughts

Hello wonderful human beings, how have you been? I am currently awake at 2 am, yet again. It is actually not a very common thing and I have to admit that I don't remember when was the last time I stayed up all night. Today (or yesterday?) I was happily asleep and then I needed to go to the bathroom and upon returning to bed I was unable to fall back asleep, so I thought it would be more productive to come and write.

When I was laying in bed I was doing some research on my phone about the Presidential Candidates for the upcoming U.S.A election. You probably already know that I am an immigrant and therefore cannot vote. I honestly don't know if it is something I will ever be able to vote, but I still like to stay informed. A few people have asked me about my opinion as an immigrant, and it is no secret that I don't like Trump. I personally don't like him as a person, I don't he has acted with the maturity and decorum that being president requires, and I think he is a bully. Also, we cannot talk about him without talking about the sexism and racism that he is sadly known for.

I was talking to someone last week, and Brandon actually almost took my phone away because I started crying in the middle of a social-media-text-debate. I was told I am going to hell for wanting to support Biden (even though I will not be voting) and apparently a lot of people are being told that. I don't it.

As far as I know, Catholic priests should not tell you who you can or cannot vote for. They can help you analyze you decision, but they shouldn't decide for you. Now, the funny thing is, the person that told me I am going to hell isn't even a priest. So even though sending people to hell is a power reserved to God, I would like to argue that people on the internet don't truly know my personal life, and if I am going to hell it will probably be because I am a pinked-haired opinionated woman with a boob tattoo and not because I dislike Trump. That is a 3 am attempt at sarcasm. I am also eating a lot of candy and it is unnecessarily giving me crazy energy. It is a sugar rush argument now!

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. Why am I going to hell you might ask is because Biden is pro-choice while Trump calls himself pro-life. Before we continue I would like to say that I do consider myself pro-life, the idea of abortion has never been something that has sounded good to me. Religion aside, I have just always thought that it is not my place to take someone else's life. Abortion is not something that I would ever do myself or advise someone else to do. With that said, I have never been in the position to want/need an abortion, so all I can do is put my compassion before my judgement.

Anyway, I have a YouTube video playing on the background and I keep losing my train of thoughts. I was going to say, before getting distracted, that while I understand people not wanting to vote for Biden because he is pro-choice, I am forced to ask are you really pro-life or just against abortion? Why do I ask this? because Trump supports the death penalty. Oh, you didn't know that? Well, that's why we do research. I don't know you, but I don't think the death penalty is very pro-life. So, is it a good argument to say you are voting Trump just because he is "pro-life"? I don't know, you tell me. I am against the death penalty for the same reasons I am against abortion, it is just not my place to decided when someone dies.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have written this post if it wasn't 3 am. The majority of you aren't even reading from within the United States, so the presidential election probably isn't on your list of priorities, but it is what is going on through my overthinking brain right now. And because I have been told I am going to hell, it is also keeping me awake.

If you want to take anything away from this, is jut to realize that politics are more complicated that just one topic, and that you are most likely not going to find a candidate that absolutely checks all of your boxes. When you choose a candidate you are endorsing a specific individual, and regardless of what party they belong to, it is important to take in account what they stand for as individuals. If you still think I am going to hell just know that I simply cannot support a person who spreads and encourages hate, let alone someone who would give up their values in a sneeze just to obtain more power.

I apologize if none of these *frantically waves arms* applies to you, thank you for reading all the way to the end regardless of that. Please let me know your opinion, whether against or in favor, in the comments below. I always enjoy getting to know your opinion on things. If you think the blog is worth reading, please share it with everyone you know.

Here are a couple of sources that talk about this topic:

Until next week, I hope you are having better sleep than me. Please refrain from telling people they are going to hell because that isn't up to you. Love everyone around you, and please, don't forget to let me know what you think about everything. You can also leave me unrelated comments, I just love comments. Okay, I am going to try and sleep now. Bye.
