Making Books and Celebrating Valentine's Day
Hello wonderful human beings, how have you been? I have been good, this has been a good week for me.
Did you guys celebrate valentine's day? Brandon and I did for the first time in the four years we have been together. Since we met, Brandon made it a point that he didn't really care about valentine's day. You see the cynicism in him tells him that this holiday is nothing but capitalism profiting from the love people have for each other. So we have never celebrated valentine's day.
This year I decided to make a romantic dinner to surprise Brandon and he surprised me with roses. It wasn't anything extravagant but it was a nice romantic evening.
I don't think I've read or even pick up a book since valentine's day, I have been too busy working on making my journal. I usually bind small books, but this time I decided to give myself a challenge and make a larger book. Another challenging aspect of this project was upcycling an old sketchbook that I've had sitting at a closet for the past year or so.
Looking at the finish product, I can see several aesthetical flaws but the book is functional and now I know how to do things differently. And since I do have leftover materials I will be attempting a second book.
I made a short video showing the process of how I made it, and have been thinking about making either a video or written instructions of how to do the book binding, so let me know if that's something you would be interested in.
I am no expert, especially when it comes to making the cover, but I do know how to make several different binds and would love to show others how to do it.
And that is all for today, so don't forget to do something that makes you happy and until next week, share your love with everyone around you.
