Let's Talk About Women's Day

Hello wonderful human beings, how are doing? Did you miss me last week? I am doing really good.

The weather has been so nice lately I've been spending a lot of time outside and I haven't really been doing my house chores. I have a couple of dirty dishes and a lot of dirty laundry.

It doesn't help that last week I did little to no chores. As I mentioned two weeks ago, Brandon and I were going to take a break and go on a trip. However, do to Covid related reasons we had to cancel and stay home. We still took a break, hence no chores got done other than what was essential.

We both needed a break, Brandon really enjoyed not having to wake up at 5 am every day. For me it felt nice not having to worry about the blog. As much as I enjoy having this blog and writing it, I was starting to hit a lack of motivation/writer's block, which is always a good indicator that I need a break. Now I have a little list of things I want to write about. I am excited about these topics, which sometimes makes it harder to write because there is so much I want to write about each topic that I don't know where to start and end. I can't have insanely long posts because it just isn't worth it compared to the amount of people who actually read through very long posts.

Anyhow, last Monday was women's day, which is an international celebration for women. This day always reminds me of my maternal grandmother, whom I remember teaching me about women's day as a child. She has also, always been my role model and woman that I admire and aspire to be like.

I remember as child we would wear purple on women's day, it is the official color of this day because it represents justice and dignity. Wearing purple (which I almost forgot this year) is a reminder that there is still a lot of work that we need to do as a society to achieve justice and dignity for women, but also for every single human being regardless of sex and/or gender identification.

Women's day, is also a day to remind us that we can in fact achieve all of our goals and dreams, and to thank and honor the women who came before us and have fought for us to live the life we have with the opportunities we now have. Sometimes I think it is crazy how at one point in life women were sentenced to death for owning a book, let alone read it.

Women were not allowed (and in some places still aren't allowed) to have an opinion or say in how they lived their lives.

I would definitely be committed to an asylum for being "too smart" and "too opinionated" for what women in the 18th and 19th century were allowed to be. I would have been probably been trialed as a witch in any century before that.

The truth is that most, if not all, women now a days would have been considered a witch/diagnosed with insanity just for doing the things we do on a daily basis, just for reading this blog.

We have come a long way in the past 100 years, since feminist movements began, but at the same time we haven't. This problem reminds me of the euphemism treadmill, which you can read more about here, were we change language (in the case of feminism we have changed laws) but don't change our mindset and we don't change our culture, so we end up with the same issues coming back again, slightly different but with same root. In this case the root of the problem is the idea that don't have the same dignity as men and therefore don't deserve to be treated with the same respect.

So today I leave you with these questions: why do you think misogyny exists? And what do we need to do as society to stop it?

That is it for today, until next time, don't forget to share your love with everyone around you, and do something that makes you happy.
