Let's Talk About The Garden and All The Creatures That Live Here

Hello wonderful human beings, how have you been? I have been good and busy.

Now that the summer is beginning the garden needs a lot of work, so I am out there almost everyday working for a couple of hours. Watering alone takes over an hour, and the hotter it gets the harder it is to work outside so things start to take longer. I do, however, love the garden so I enjoy working outside.

This year our garden is about 10 times the size of what it was last year, both in terms of flowers and veggies, and with that we have noticed a whole new array of animals and creatures that regularly come here.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know about this animals because I love observing them and taking pictures, so I have been sharing a lot of pictures there.

Now lets talk about the animals

1. The bunnies

These guys started coming around the winter and I am pretty sure they were eating from our compost pile. Since no one was going outside during the winter, they got used to coming here and haven't left yet. I think at this point they are too used to coming here to ever leave, and we have 3 to 5 bunnies come every day. For the most part they eat the bird food that falls to the ground, but they have munched on a couple of vegetables, and did completely eat the bean plant. This morning I placed a fence down to officially keep them out of the vegetable garden because the vegetables will start growing soon and I don't want to lose them all.

2. Robins

I don't have any pictures of both of them but there is two robins (a male and a female) that hang out on the garden almost all day everyday. They actually have a nest on our neighborhood's deck and so they take turns being on the nest and gathering food. It has been really interesting to watch them come to the area, build a nest, look for worms and grubs, and interact with each other.

3. A mourning dove

I don't know much about mourning doves, and this one just started coming around this week, so I am don't have much to say other than it doesn't seem to mind my presence because it flew directly into the bird feeder when I was outside, about a foot away from it.

4. A little snail

I also don't have a picture of this one, but I have seen a little snail hanging around the flowers. So far there isn't any obvious damage to the flowers so the little snail can stay.

5. Sparrows

These guys are as messy as they are cute. They are by far the most common visitor and they come in groups of about 10 of them. They prefer eating from the ground so they drop as much food as they can from the bird feeder so they can eat it from the ground, which in turn also feeds the bunnies.

That is it so far for the little animals that have come to the garden. I will definitely continue sharing if more come around.

I found an old picture of last year's garden so here is a comparison of what it was vs what it is.

Last year at the end of the season. Last year we had one cucumber plant and two tomato plants, as well as some herbs, a watermelon plant and some lettuce.

This year we have 2 cucumber plants (2 different types), 13 tomato plants (6 different types), 3 pepper plants, 4 strawberry plants, 1 egg plant, some lettuce, and a lot more herbs.

Let's not forget we also have the flower beds that Brandon and his dad built.

And that is all for today, I hope you have a beautiful day. Until next week, don't forget to share your love with everyone around you and do something that makes you happy.
